14th March 2023 – First session from 12:00 pm to 02:00 pm, second session 3:00 pm to 04:30 pm (Istanbul time)

15th March 2023 – First session from 12:00 pm to 02:00 pm, second session 03:00 pm to 04:30 pm (Istanbul time)

16th March 2023 – First session from 11:30 am to 01:30 pm, second session 02:00 pm to 03:30 pm (Istanbul time)

Course Details:

This course aims to teach participants how to prepare and present information about their organizations and their specific projects to donors, to raise funds for their work. The course will inform participants:

  • How to look for funds for humanitarian and development projects.
  • How to register with humanitarian and development donors.
  • How to create (with examples) a pipeline of potential donors.
  • The organizational information required by donors to apply for funds (‘donor due diligence’).
  • How to prepare an effective concept note- main information required, format, hints and tips for writing a good project concept.
  • How to prepare an effective proposal- main information required, format, hints and tips for writing a good project concept.
  • Register their organization with at least 3 new donors.
  • Create and maintain monthly, a funding pipeline of potential donors.
  • Submit at least 4 concept notes to donors.
  • Submit at least 2 proposals to donors.
  • Receive funding from at least 1 of the proposals submitted.

Introduction to fundraising:
• Where to look for fundraising- online sites, services- when to pay/when not to pay!;
• How to introduce yourself (i.e., good introduction email, online tools);
• How to network- where to meet donors, funders, etc.

Basic information required by donors from organizations, including some examples:
• Annual report;
• Past project data;
• Brochure/infographics/one-pagers.

Donor due diligence:
• How to register with donors;
• How to submit accurate organizational information (i.e., accounts, legal status information)

Organization/project presentation/concept note:
• How to prepare a donor presentation/short concept;
• Main sections, information needed, project summary, good project title, etc.

Recap on the donor presentation/concept session and split the group into pairs to create a presentation/concept.

Ask pairs to present back and provide feedback as a group and from me as a trainer.


Poppy Hardee is a committed humanitarian with over ten years’ experience in institutional fundraising, program management and capacity strengthening. Her field experience covers a range of humanitarian sectors in complex settings. Poppy has supported and managed programs directly in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Somalia, and Sierra Leone. She is also a business development expert who currently works for Save the Children UK, as their Charitable Funding Lead.

Any staff of humanitarian or development organizations with a responsibility for program design, business development, proposal writing and/or fundraising.
