Course Details:

This course aims to teach participants how to prepare and present information about their organizations and their specific projects to donors, to raise funds for their work. The course will inform participants:

  1. How to look for funds for humanitarian and development projects.
  2. How to register with humanitarian and development donors.
  3. How to create (with examples) a pipeline of potential donors.
  4. The organizational information required by donors to apply for funds (‘donor due diligence’).
  5. How to prepare an effective concept note- main information required, format, hints and tips for writing a good project concept.
  6. How to prepare an effective proposal- main information required, format, hints and tips for writing a good project concept.
  1. Identify new donors for their organization’s work.
  2. Create a pipeline of prospective donors.
  3. Be able to create a short presentation for donors on the work of their organization.
  4. Effectively list the main components of a concept note.
  5. Be able to prepare a needs- based concept note and present needs assessment data in a clear and compelling way.
  6. Effectively list the main components of a proposal.
  7. Be able to prepare a theory of change and a logical framework for their project(s).

Understand the age and gender marker and be able to apply it to their concepts and proposals.

Lead trainer
Poppy Hardee is a committed humanitarian with over ten years’ experience in institutional fundraising, program management and capacity strengthening. Her field experience covers a range of humanitarian sectors in complex settings. Poppy has supported and managed programs directly in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Somalia, and Sierra Leone. She is also a business development expert who currently works for Save the Children UK, as their Charitable Funding Lead.

 

Trainer Assistant
Youssef Almustafa has more than 15 years of experience as a trainer and facilitator; he delivers and facilitates trainings in Sphere, Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), Cash and Voucher assistance (CVA), Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Project Management for Development (PMD Pro1), Minimum Economic Recovery Standard (MERS) | Third Party Monitoring (TPM) with a special focus on livelihood sector l Field work supervision and data collection. In addition to training, he has more than 10-years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, needs assessment and research.
In this effective fundraising & proposal writing training, Mr. Almustafa will support the lead trainer in all sessions; in addition, he will deliver sessions related to monitoring and evaluation and logical framework.

Any staff of humanitarian or development organizations with a responsibility for program design, business development, proposal writing and/or fundraising.

Should currently be in a fundraising/proposal writing/fundraising role and have knowledge of their organization and their organization’s projects. This would not be suitable for students/individuals/people wanting to get into a fundraising role.
